Very naturally mind and Dharmas harmonize. An ancient said that non-mind Enacts and fulfills the way Of non-mind. Enacting and fulfilling the way Of non-mind, finally you can rest. -- Hongzhi Zhengjue No mother nor father nor any other kin can do greater good for oneself than a mind directed well. -- Dhammapada Boundless and free is the sky of samadhi, Bright, the full moon of wisdom! Truly, is anything missing now? Nirvana is right here, before our eyes; This very place is the lotus land, This very body the Buddha. -- Hakuin The field of boundless emptiness Is what exists from the beginning. You must purify, cure, grind down, Or brush away all the tendencies You have fabricated into Apparent habits. Then you can reside in the Circle of brightness. Utter emptiness has no image, Upright independence does not Rely on anything. The twisted path reaches The shady places; The zendo hides deep Among flowers and woods. Sparkling sunlight Quickens the birds; The splashing waterfall Empties people's minds. The ten thousand things stop: A dharma bell rings through all! -- Chang Jian Think not lightly of good, saying, "It will not come to me." Drop by drop is the water pot filled. Likewise, the wise man, gathering it little by little, fills himself with good. -- Dhammapada The fragrant temple at the foot Of the eastern mountain Hides in mystery, Amid smoke and flowers, Remote from this dusty world. At dusk, a lone lamp flickers Before ranges of shadowy mountains. Parting the curtains In the temple, I see The fall weather of Fall Lakes; On the walls around me, I see flying geese That remain after their season. Through windows, I see Constellations slumbering Near the horizon. Strange how this scene Makes me think Heaven is closer. In my dreams, I travel With the white clouds. -- Sun Di Just as a mountain of rock, is unwavering, well-settled, so the monk whose delusion is ended, like a mountain, is undisturbed. -- Udana I had not thought To visit Xiang Ji temple Several miles up in the clouds. No path through the old forest. Where in these mountains Is that bell chiming? Spring water gurgles Amid rocks; Sunlight dapples The cold green pines In early evening, Hearing faint echoes of a Waterfall, Zazen sweeps the mind clean - Wang Wei Make an island of yourself, make yourself your refuge; there is no other refuge. Although this form exists, It seems as if it doesn’t. I have no idea where the Months have gone. Every time I turn around, Another year on earth is over. -- Han-shan Te-ch’ing The gift of Dhamma triumphs over all other gifts; the taste of Dhamma triumphs over all other tastes; the happiness of Dhamma triumphs over all other pleasures; the eradication of craving triumphs over all suffering. -- Dhammapada Little Pines Poking up from the ground Barely above my knees, Already there’s holiness In their coiled roots. Though harsh frost has Whitened the hundred grasses, Deep in the courtyard, One grove of green! In the late night Long-legged spiders stir; Crickets are calling From the empty stairs. A thousand years from now Who will stroll among these trees, Fashioning poems on their Ancient dragon shapes? -- Ch’I chi "Impermanent are all compounded things." When one perceives this with true insight, then one becomes detached from suffering; this is the path of purification. -- Dhammapada This is not a Prophecy though you best Listen Well The conditioned coarse you Plot Leads right to Hell, No one can Save you but yourself that is your Fact So take a look at yourself see what you've Lacked. -- Yogajyotii That the self advances And confirms ten thousand things Is called delusion; That the ten thousand things Advance and confirm the self Is called enlightenment. -- Dogen Look not to the faults of others, nor to their omissions and commissions. But rather look to your own acts, to what you have done and left undone. -- Dhammapada Boundless and free Is the sky of samadhi, Bright, the full moon Of wisdom! Truly, is anything Missing now?
