What God will you invent today what do you need or Fear What conditioned notion will you lose that you hold Dear, Just because you Suffer so you devise your own Savior Yet will not save you but your own thinking and behavior. -- Yogajyotii

Just don’t seek from others, Or you’ll be far estranged from Self. I now go on alone; Everywhere I meet It: It now is me; I now am It. One must understand in this way To merge with thusness. -- Dongshan Liangjie

Mind the octopus grasping any experience and demanding for more. -- Visarjana

One narrow path surrounded by a dense forest; On all sides, mountains lie in darkness. The autumn leaves have already fallen. No rain, but still the rocks are dark with moss. Returning to my hermitage along a way known to few, Carrying a basket of fresh mushrooms And a jar of pure water from the temple well. -- Ryokan

If by renouncing a lesser happiness one may realize a greater happiness, let the wise one renounce the lesser, having regard for the greater. -- Dhammapada

Live without covetous greed, fill your mind with benevolence. Be mindful and one-pointed, inwardly stable and concentrated. -- Anguttara Nikaya

Which way Did you come from, Following dream paths at night, While snow is still deep In this mountain recess? -- Ryokan

This is to be done by one skilled in aims who wants to break through to the state of peace: Be capable, upright, & straightforward, easy to instruct, gentle, & not conceited, content & easy to support, with few duties, living lightly, with peaceful faculties, masterful, modest, & no greed for supporters. Do not do the slightest thing that the wise would later censure. -- Sutta Nipata

Do we not cherish the Infinite brightness Of the one bright pearl? Who can surpass The virtue of this Brilliant, radiant pearl That covers the universe? The essence of causality Never ceases and The pearl is always bright. It is our original face and enlightened eye. -- Dogen

It is one's Understanding/Awareness of What-IS Truth That must be inclusive of All as IS deprived from youth, For individual importance even if it may be Regression Whos singular presence in the universe is possession. -- Yogajyotii

Irrigators direct the water, Fletchers fashion the shaft, Carpenters bend the wood, The wise control themselves. -- Dhammapada

The great path has no gates, Thousands of roads enter it. When one passes through this gateless gate He walks freely between heaven and earth. -- Mu-mon

Understanding is now, not tomorrow. Tomorrow is for the lazy mind, the sluggish mind, the mind that is not interested. Transformation can only take place immediately; the revolution is now, not tomorrow. -- J. Krishnamurti

Think not lightly of good, saying, "It will not come to me." Drop by drop is the water pot filled. Likewise, the wise man, gathering it little by little, fills himself with good. -- Dhammapada

If All Is One who is to choose if All Is One what choices Yet who is to create but rearrange the pitch of Voices, There can only be One or Two the seeming mixture fool If you are to be Whole or Total or Oneness BE the Tool. -- Yogajyotii

Make an island of yourself, make yourself your refuge; there is no other refuge. Make truth your island, make truth your refuge; there is no other refuge. -- Digha Nikaya

Sitting on top of a boulder The gorge stream icy cold Quiet fun holds a special charm Fogged-in on deserted cliffs A fine place to rest The sun leans and tree shadows sprawl While I view the ground of my mind A lotus comes out of the mud. -- Cold Mountain

Perhaps the hardest lesson to learn is not to be attached to the results of your actions. -- J. Borysenko

Not twice this day Inch time foot gem. This day will not come again. Each minute a priceless gem -- Takuan

The gift of Dhamma triumphs over all other gifts; the taste of Dhamma triumphs over all other tastes; the happiness of Dhamma triumphs over all other pleasures; the eradication of craving triumphs over all suffering. -- Dhammapada

There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; my philosophy is kindness. -- Dalai lama

If you meet a fencing master on the road, show him your sword, If you meet a poet, offer her your poem. When you meet others, say only a part of what you intend. Never give the whole thing at once. -- Mu-mon

One is not low because of birth nor does birth make one holy. Deeds alone make one low, deeds alone make one holy. -- Sutta Nipata

When you try to stop activity to achieve passivity your very effort fills you with activity. As long as you remain in one extreme or the other you will never know Oneness. -- Sosan

Above, across or back again, wherever he goes in the world let him carefully scrutinise the rise and fall of compounded things. -- Itivuttaka

The monkey is reaching For the moon in the water. Until death overtakes him He’ll never give up. If he’d let go the branch and Disappear in the deep pool, The whole world would shine With dazzling pureness. -- Hakuin

Watchfulness is the path of immortality: unwatchfulness is the path of death. Those who are watchful never die: those who do not watch are already as dead. -- The Dhammapada

Someone asked, "What do you mean by the true Buddha, the true Dharma and the true Way? Would you be good enough to explain to us?" The Master said,"The Buddha- this is the cleanness and purity of the mind. The Dharma- this is the shining brightness of the mind. The Way- this is the pure light that is never obstructed anywhere. The three are in fact one. All are empty names and have no true reality." -- Lin-chi

Only when we wish upon a falling star or with a penny Only when we fail to BE who we ARE due to the many, It is being too Painful do we *wish* for greener pastures And to arrogantly *think* that we are our own Masters. -- Yogajyotii

All tremble at punishment. Life is dear to all. Put yourself in the place of others; kill none nor have another killed. -- Dhammapada

If your mind is fixed on a certain spot, It will be seized by that spot and No activities can be performed efficiently. Not to fix your mind anywhere is essential. Not fixed anywhere, The mind is everywhere - The Original Mind is like water which flows freely Whereas the deluded mind is like ice There is a passage in the Diamond Sutra that says: "The mind should operate without abiding anywhere." -- Takuan

If one, longing for sensual pleasure, achieves it, yes, he's enraptured at heart. The mortal gets what he wants. But if for that person -- longing, desiring -- the pleasures diminish, he's shattered, as if shot with an arrow. -- Sutta Nipata

Mind set free in the Dharma-realm, I sit at the moon-filled window Watching the mountains with my ears, Hearing the stream with open eyes. Each molecule preaches perfect law, Each moment chants true sutra: The most fleeting thought is timeless, A single hair’s enough to stir the sea. -- Shutaku

We want some control of a Cosmic Law such as Karma Yet is the sheer folly because our Karma IS our Dharma, Indeed not helpless IF we Wake-Up from what is Told For Sleeping we are conditioned programmed controlled. -- Yogajyotii

Were there a mountain all made of gold, doubled that would not be enough to satisfy a single man: know this and live accordingly. -- Samyutta Nikaya

My meditation is simple; it does not require any complex practices. It is very simple. It is singing, it is dancing. It is sitting silently. It is being at ease with existence. -- Osho

Although the marvelous Lines are difficult to trace, Still I can make out Several layers of mountains, A jumble of peaks, Like shell-spiraled locks of hair. Faraway streams and mountains, Peaks swathed in clouds, Just like a painting, Have captured the essence. Gazing into emptiness, I long to ask the monk about it. If I don’t learn the meaning Of the reclusive life, I can but sigh with regret until the day I die! -- Su Shih

The worse of the two is he who, when abused, retaliates. One who does not retaliate wins a battle hard to win. -- Samyutta Nikaya

For about thirty years I wandered, Searching for the real Tao everywhere. How many times did I see the trees Grow new branches and watch The old leaves fall? But at this moment, Seeing the peach blossoms, Suddenly, there are no more doubts. -- Huang Shan-ku

If you want a free lunch go down to the Diner Budo But when you want to Dance then you must let go, When you see Hubbard at a cupboard with a bone Then you will know that the Path is One all Alone. -- Yogajyotii

Wonderful it is to train the mind so swiftly moving, seizing whatever it wants. Good is it to have a well-trained mind, for a well-trained mind brings happiness. -- Dhammapada
